The former North Broadway School building soon could be converted into apartments.
The company Exact Architects has plans to renovate the vacant property located at 801 N. Broadway into The Broadway Residences.
Caleb Buland, an executive with Exact Architects, said about $4 million will be invested in the project. He hopes construction can begin in about 45 days, with the apartments opening in June.
Exact Architects previously converted the former Ben Day School into the Ben Day Lofts apartment complex.
In fact, the North Broadway and Ben Day school buildings were constructed at the same time. And the two schools had the same layouts and nearly identical facades, according to information from the Kansas Historical Society.
The two-story North Broadway School building, which was built in 1923, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
